A child’s imagination seems effortless.

Give a child a box and ask, “What is this?” It might instantly become a boat, a car, a rocket ship, a hat, a cave, a robot suit, or a treasure chest.

You can probably imagine all those possibilities, too.

But what about a tongue? An apple? A river? A tree? A pair of socks? A crayon?

Why are some ideas so much easier to find than others?

Children don’t try to impress anyone by being imaginative or clever. They simply respond to what’s in front of them. No overthinking. No judging. Just play.

That’s improvisation: offer and response.

The Circle of Possibilities explores the ideas our imaginations naturally offer in response to a stimulus. Rather than forcing ourselves to be creative or searching for a clever idea, we learn to recognize and use the possibilities already within reach.

In this workshop, Patti Stiles will help you explore the Circle of Possibilities and discover how it can move scenes forward, inspire your scene partners, and make your improvisation more spontaneous and effortless.
